Third Party post - Here is the latest Pennsylvania news from The Associated Press
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Nine military ballots that authorities said were mistakenly discarded by a contracted elections worker in a northeastern Pennsylvania county have been linked to specific voters and can be considered for counting in the Nov. 3 presidential election. The Luzerne County manager said Tuesday the ballots included information that enabled investigators to link them to particular voters. President Donald Trump repeatedly raised the ballots as a campaign issue, including twice during the first presidential debate. Pennsylvania's secretary of state has called the incident a “bad error” but not a matter of intentional fraud.
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (AP) — President Donald Trump’s campaign has a bold theory for how he will win reelection: It can tap a universe of millions of supporters who did not vote for him in 2016 but will do so this time. This strategy will be tested in Pennsylvania, a critical state that Trump carried by only 44,292 votes out of 6.1 million cast in 2016. A Democratic surge of votes in cities and suburbs could quickly erase that narrow lead. To hold onto Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, the Republican president needs to prove that a hidden groundswell of supporters exists and will vote.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The police commissioner in Philadelphia says her department will release 911 tapes and footage from police body cameras “in the near future” in the shooting death of Walter Wallace Jr. Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at a briefing Wednesday that officials will do so after talking with Wallace’s relatives to prepare them. She also says the police department should move “as soon as possible” to integrate with mental health services. Mayor Jim Kenney says looting prevention and assistance to the police are the reasons the city asked for the National Guard to be deployed after two nights of unrest after the police killing of Wallace.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — With six days until Election Day, Pennsylvania’s top elections official is urging voters who have a mail-in ballot to drop it off in person rather than mail it. The deadline to apply for mail-in ballot passed on Tuesday. Voters applied for almost 3.1 mail-in or absentee ballots, with about 2 million returned thus far. Counties expect to need two or three days after Election Day to tabulate the vast majority of mail-in ballots, with expectations that many mail-in votes will not be counted by election night. That could leave Pennsylvania’s presidential election result in doubt for days after polls close.
